Berry Toned Lipsticks

Evening my lovelies, and happy Saturday. Can you believe it's nearly the end of September? This year (and my life) are just flying by and it's crazy that I'm almost a qualified midwife now!

I had a couple of posts lined up for this evening and I asked you guys on twitter what you fancied, and it was even between this post and my Urban Decay palette, so if you were after that post, just keep your eyes peeled.

Everyone is doing their Autumn or Fall lipsticks lately, and I love those posts, but I wanted to do something specifically for berry tones. Firstly because I wear berry tones all year round, and secondly because it makes me think of Christmas (and I'm too impatient to wait for Christmas makeup posts).

So I'll have a chat about these lipsticks in order of the swatches from top to bottom. As you can see, they're pretty similar, but I've got a range of high-end and drugstore, and lipsticks and glosses.

Calvin Klein Desire - Now don't tell anyone, I actually bought this collection of Calvin Klein lipsticks from Groupon. But lets be real, I couldn't resist that kind of offer. Desire is a really beautiful colour, something I don't really have in my collection. On the swatch it looks pretty plain, but in the bullet it's this beautiful burnt colour but with super milled bronze/gold shimmer through it, giving it a lovely effect on the lips.

The application of these straight out of the bullet can be pretty tricky, so I'd go with a brush, and they can be drying so chuck some lip balm on underneath. It also looks lovely with a little added bronze, so I've been popping some of my Lush Latte Lip Balm in the centre of my lip to get a lovely ombre effect.

Collection 1 Seduction - Everyone has their go to red, and this just happens to mine. This is definitely a more burgundy/wine toned red. It's really buildable, and appears more red, the more layers you apply.  Also you have the added bonus of it being a Collection product, and ergo super reasonable. This lasts pretty well, but can go a little bit patchy when your lips are dry; and if I were you I'd definitely go for a lip liner.

MAC Rebel - My first ever MAC product! If you want to know more about this in detail, then please head over to my post specifically about it here. Lots of people share this opinion, but just in case you've not seen this shade before, it looks pretty scary in the bullet. It looks very bright, and not very wearable, but I was pleasantly surprised when I first swatched it on my lips. This colour would look beautiful on all skin tones, and can be worn very lightly or built up for a more intense look.

Barry M Lip Paint 160 - This is one of the first vampy lipsticks I bought when I first got into makeup a few years ago. Since then it has done me proud, and I've worn it pretty regularly. I would say it's definitely the darkest of the 5, and is probably the most "out there" if vampy lipsticks are new to you. Out of all of them I would say I usually leave this one for winter, because it's a tricky one to pull off in summer, unless you're going on a night out.

Rimmel Apocalips Galaxy - This isn't one of the better Apocalips formulas, it's definitely not as good as the matte finishes, but it does the job. This swatches a lot darker and more brown toned than it looks on the lips. It's a very pretty mauve shade, with milled silver shimmer through it. Although, I love the colour, it's longevity has a little to be desired, and you do have to reapply it throughout the day.

So there we are, let me know which one is your favourite in the comments, or if you have a favourite berry lipstick that's not on my list. I hope you're having a lovely evening, whatever you're doing.

Lots of love, N x

  5. I love the look of all of these and I like the fact that they are not that vampy looking as I struggle to pull that look off!

  6. Gorgeous, gorgeous shades. I've never been a berry lips kinda gal but lately i've gotten obsessed. Perhaps it's seeing so many fellow bloggers rock the berry lips that it's gotten my inspired. Either way I need more in my collection. Again such a great post x
